The Loft is a conference room in the Tim Horton’s on campus, located on the top floor of the Student Union Building. Users are required to book the room in advance through Roomit. The room is equipped with inputs for laptops and other computing devices, and has a 65″ screen at the end of the table. There are 11 seats at the table.
Setting up the Computer
Turn the computer behind the display on. The power button is located on the bottom of the side of the machine.
Using the remote in the room, press the power button. You may need to adjust the angle of the remote and press a few times. This is common with large screens as the receiver can be very fine tuned.
If there is no picture, make sure the display is set to “HDMI 1”. Press “source” on the remote and use the arrow buttons to select “HDMI 1”.
Log in using the mouse & keyboard provided. No further set up action is required and you’re all set to use the computer.
Setting up your Laptop
The Loft has two options for connecting a laptop (or other device, such as a tablet) to the display, HDMI and VGA. HDMI is newer and carries both video and audio, while VGA is older but more common. Some laptops will need an adapter to work with these cables (most Macbooks, for instance). Plug your laptop into one of the two cables.
Please Note: If you use the VGA port, you need to plug the audio jack into your computer’s headphone output.
Select the “Source” button on the remote and use the arrow buttons to select either “VGA” or “HDMI 2”. Shown is the VGA source.
Log into your computer as normal. No further set up action is required and you’re all set to use your device on the screen.
