Multimedia Classrooms - Showing a Movie

How to use our Multimedia systems to project a movie from a DVD, Blu-ray or VHS:

In our classrooms, you can play a DVD either through a Blu-ray player, or a combination unit DVD and VHS player. In our newer classrooms the combo unit has been removed completely and has been replaced by a Blu-ray player only, as demand for VHS tape compatibility has gone down significantly. However, there are still VCR/VHS players in Bandeen, Molson 10, and Nicolls 4. Therefore this tutorial will highlight how to play a movie through the Blu-ray players, DVD players, and VHS players.

Note: If you would like to play a VHS in your class but it does not have a VHS player, you can come and see us at the Helpdesk located on the main floor of the Library Learning Commons and we can transfer your VHS to a DVD, provided that we are legally allowed.

Showing a VHS:

To show a VHS in our classrooms, you will first need to insert the VHS into the DVD/VCR player located below the touchscreen on the front panel of our desks. (If you can’t find the DVD/VCR player, than you are most likely in a room where it has been replaced). You will then need to click on the touch screen where is says “Touch to begin”. Following that, please click on the VCR choice as highlighted in the image below:

To show a DVD in our classrooms, you will first need to insert the DVD into the DVD/VCR player located below the touchscreen on the front panel of our desks. If you can’t find the DVD/VCR player, than you are most likely in a room where it has been replaced and you will need to insert the DVD into the Blu-ray player and follow the instruction below for showing a Blu-ray. You will then need to click on the touch screen where is says “Touch to begin”. Following that, please click on the DVD choice as highlighted in the image below:

Showing a Blu-ray:

To show a Blu-ray in our classrooms, you will first need to insert the Blu-ray into the player located below the touchscreen on the front panel of our desks. If you can’t find a Blu-ray player, you will not be able to play it in that classroom and unfortunately, we will not be able to transfer it to a DVD at the Helpdesk. What you can do though, is come and see us and we will be able to tell you the classrooms that do have a Blu-ray player and check their availability. To show the Blu-ray you will  need to click on the touch screen where is says “Touch to begin”. Following that, please click on the Blu-ray choice as highlighted in the image below:

Additional Movie Options:

To view the DVD or Blu-ray Menu you can choose the Menu button and use the arrow keys and select keys underneath to navigate your way through the menu. Also during the movie playtime you can toggle the subtitle on and off using the Subtitle button, keep in mind this button might not work on some DVDs and in that case you need to turn the subtitle on or off through the DVD menu. To change the Movie volume you can change the volume bar on the bottom right by using the up and down keys on the touch panel. You can see all the options mentioned in the image below:
