The Visiting Scholar’s IT Guide

Welcome to Bishop’s University! On this page, you will find useful information to help you use the most popular services offered to visiting scholars.

1. Connecting to the Wireless Network

Wireless is available on campus in most buildings. This includes the library, SUB (Student Union Building), Tim Hortons, all classrooms, computer labs, residences and many outdoor areas close to buildings.

There are three wireless network available for scholars while visiting our campus.

  1. EDUROAM
  2. WIZABU
  3. ZAP
i. EDUROAM

Eduroam provides researchers, teachers, and students easy and secure network access when visiting an institution other than their own. By connecting with Eduroam, you will be able to access the internet on campus by login in with your University's credentials.

To setup EDUROAM on your device, simply select the operating system of your device:

iOS
Android

ii. WIZABU

Students, staff and faculty members all have access to a wireless network on campus entitled WIZABU. WIZABU allows for permanent wireless access in most buildings using your Bishop’s username and password.

To setup WIZABU on your device, simply select the operating system of your device:

iii. ZAP

Guests visiting the university who don’t have Bishop’s accounts can access internet using the city's public ZAP connection. This is an unsecure network provided by the university for guests’ browsing and email purposes and is only available in public spaces on campus - not within classrooms.

Step 1:

To setup ZAP on your device click on your system’s wireless icon in the taskbar and select ZAP from the listed wireless networks.

Step 2:

Open a web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, etc.).

Step 3:

Try to access any webpage (i.e. google.ca).

Step 4:

Enter your email address and click ‘Log In’

2. Setting up your email on your mobile device

Should you decide to use your Bishop's email, you can view your emails with Webmail in any browser or through Outlook on an assigned workstation. Emails can also be setup on your mobile devices by following a few steps.

Take note to only enter your username (not the full email address: username@ubishops.ca) when login into webmail.

To setup your Bishop's email on your device, simply select the operating system of your device:

3. Using the Photocopiers

Xerox photocopiers are available around campus which you are able to use. The campus has 36 Xerox WorkCentre photocopiers installed which act as printers, copiers and networked scanners. Your host faculty member will be able to show you where the most convenient ones are.

Xerox has produced a series of videos documenting the use and functions of the copiers. Additionally, you can click on the links below to see some ITS documentation on some of the most used functions.

I. FollowMe Printing

FollowMe printing will allow you to print to any photocopier on campus and can be setup on any BU-managed workstation.

II. Web Print

Web Print will allow you to print to any photocopier on campus directly from your laptop and/or mobile devices.

III. Alternate Login

You will need to login on a Xerox photocopier in order to use it. Depending on the length of your stay, you might be eligible for a faculty ID which allows you to login on the photocopiers by swiping the ID card on the Xerox machine. In most cases, an ID card will not be provided and will require you to login manually by entering your Bishop's credentials on the touch panel of the Xerox machine.

IV. Photocopying

With the Xerox photocopiers you will be able to quickly and efficiently make copies your documents from anywhere on campus.

V. Scanning

The Xerox photocopiers allow you to scan documents to make physical or digital copies. For physical copies, refer to the Photocopying page. For digital copies, you can select the email button on the touch screen of the Xerox photocopiers and a copy of your document will be sent to your email address.

VI. OCR

The OCR (Optical Character Recognition) function on the Xerox photocopiers will transform your scanned documents into searchable PDFs.

4. The IT Helpdesk

The IT Helpdesk is a valuable on campus resource that will help you sort out any questions or issues you might encounter during your campus visit. Make sure you use this service as much as needed to help you setup or if you require any help using the technology available to you. You can also refer to our support website to find more helpful tutorials.

The IT Helpdesk is located on the main floor of the Library Learning Commons in the quad.
