Submitting Handwritten Assignments to Moodle

Method 1: Taking a Picture and Uploading it to Moodle

This method is strongly encouraged by ITS, especially when submitting material for a quiz

The best way to take a picture of an assignment for submission is using the built-in camera function in Moodle. This function is available on the Moodle app and lets you take a picture directly on the assignment submission page. To learn more about this process, watch the tutorial video below!

Notes:

1. The Moodle app is required to use this function. It is available for download on both the App Store and Google Play store. When you first sign in to the app you will need to enter the web address for Bishops: moodle.ubishops.ca

2. Need to take pictures of multiple pages? Don’t worry! Simply add another file and follow the same procedure.

Method 2: Scanning Handwritten Assignments to PDF for Moodle Submission

Most faculty members will require you to submit PDF files for assignments being submitted to Moodle.  This is because the process both of marking, but also providing feedback to you, is easier if PDF files are used as opposed to other file formats.

This section will show the process to take a handwritten assignment, and “scan” it to save as a PDF.  Check the sections below for the various devices that you can use to do this.

From an iOS device

Apple iOS devices have a built-in functionality for “scanning” pages of documents and saving those files as PDFs using the “Notes” app which is pre-installed on all iOS devices.  See the video below for a tutorial of how to do this:

From an Android device

From a campus photocopier

All campus photocopiers can scan paper documents to PDF using the “Scan to Email” feature found once you log on to the photocopier.  There is no charge for the use of this feature.
